Description
“Hapu’u fern silhouette”
This is a photo image of the Hawaiian Hapu'u fern. It was taken on an overcast gray day in a Volcano rainforest on the island of Hawai’i. The sunlight is shining through the back of the hapu'u creating a natural lighting effective to my photograph, producing a stunning black and white like silhouette.
Hapu'u is native to most of the Hawaiian islands. It is one of more than 800 species of tree ferns, descendants of prehistoric vegetation found worldwide in semi-wet to wet forests from sea level to over 5000 ft elevation. This hapu'u grows at about the 4,000 ft. elevation in Volcano, Hawai’i.
