Description
"In the Light and Beyond the Clouds” photo was taken from the road to Mauna Kea at the 9,000 foot elevation level across and toward clouds around the Mauna Loa. Mauna Loa is Hawaiian for "Long Mountain", probably because of its long, gently sloping shape. Mauna Kea "White Mountain," is a neighbor of Mauna Loa on the same island of Hawaii, and is actually the tallest mountain in the world from below sea level. Mauna Kea is about 350 ft/107m taller than Mauna Loa, but its mass doesn't compare to that of Mauna Loa. "Mauna Kea is often translated literally as "white mountain" because of the snow that covers its summit. But Mauna Kea is a short version of Mauna a Wakea, a name that connects it to the sky father, Wakea. This is Mauna a Wakea. The mountain belongs to Wakea."
